Ask Carepatron AI
Beyond AI Scribe: the Ask AI panel takes natural-language prompts inside any note. Summarise, restructure, draft documents, extract data from uploaded files, in the client's context, HIPAA-compliant.
Where Ask AI lives
Inside any note, the Ask button sits at the bottom (next to Transcribe). Click it and the Ask AI side panel opens. Type a natural-language prompt; Ask AI uses the note, the client's profile, prior notes, and (if you upload them) attached files as context. Insert the response back into the note, copy it elsewhere, or just read it and move on. Conversations are HIPAA-compliant and operate on your workspace data without retention beyond your session.
What you can ask for
Practitioners use Ask AI for: summarising a long note for a discharge letter, restructuring a transcript into a SOAP format, drafting a referral letter or treatment plan from the goals discussed, extracting key info from an uploaded document (PDF, DOCX, PNG, JPG; max 100MB per file), comparing what's changed between sessions, rewriting clinical language into plain English for a client-facing summary. The format of your prompt matters, specific beats vague.
AI prompts inside templates
For recurring tasks, embed an AI prompt directly into a template instead of typing it every time. In the template editor, type / to open the quick-insert menu → AI prompt. Prompts have three building blocks: placeholders in [brackets] (auto-fill with real data), instructions in (parentheses) (guide AI behaviour), and verbatim text in "quotes" (stays exactly the same every time). Prompts run when the template is applied to a note that has a transcript.
Plan rules
AI note-taking is included on every plan, Free included. The Plus plan adds custom AI workflows, the ability to wire automated steps around AI output (e.g. when a transcript is generated, auto-run a specific prompt, route the result to a specific section). For most solo practitioners Free is enough; for teams that want to standardise AI behaviour across many clinicians, Plus is the lever.
Five Ask AI prompts worth pasting in.
Each is short, specific, and works without a long preamble. Adapt to your context.
Summarise this note as a discharge letter to the client's GP. Three short paragraphs, clinical tone, no bullet points.
Rewrite this note in plain English at a year 8 reading level. Keep it under 200 words and don't drop any clinical content.
Compare today's session to the first session four weeks ago. What's changed, what's the same, what should be the focus next session?
Draft a six-week treatment plan from the goals we discussed today. SMART format, with a brief rationale for each goal.
Read the uploaded PDF (an imaging report). Extract the key findings into a bullet list I can paste into the assessment section.
Where do I find Ask AI?
Inside any note, click Ask at the bottom of the editor (next to Transcribe). The Ask AI side panel opens with the current note and client as context.
What context does Ask AI have?
The current note, the client's profile, prior notes on the same client, the transcript (if there is one), and any files you upload to the panel. It does not have context outside your workspace.
What file types can I upload?
PDF, DOCX (Word), PNG, and JPG. Max 100MB per file. Useful for imaging reports, scanned notes from other systems, handwritten notes you've photographed.
Is Ask AI HIPAA-compliant?
Yes. Ask AI is HIPAA-compliant. It processes your workspace data without retaining it beyond your session.
Do AI prompts in templates need a transcript?
Yes, prompts embedded in templates run on the transcript text. If the note has no transcript (e.g. a pure-typed note with no dictation or recording), the prompt won't have anything to work with.
What's the difference between Ask AI and AI Prompts?
Ask AI is conversational, one-off questions in the side panel, ad-hoc, no setup. AI Prompts are embedded in templates, they run automatically every time the template applies to a note with a transcript. Use Ask AI for exploration, AI Prompts for repeatable tasks.
Which plan includes AI features?
AI note-taking is on every plan, Free included. Plus adds custom AI workflows, the ability to wire automated event-based AI steps for teams that want to standardise AI behaviour across many clinicians.
